Gallbladder Cleanse – 5 Key Steps
🍐 What is a gallbladder?
The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ that plays a key role in the digestive process. It is located under the liver and is responsible for storing bile, a substance that helps break down fats in the intestines.
- Location : under the liver, on the right side of the body, just below the ribs.
-
Function : storage and secretion of bile, supporting the digestion of fats.
🧪 What is bile?
Bile is a yellow-green fluid produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. When you eat fatty foods, bile is released into the intestines to help break them down. It consists of:
- Water
- Bile salts
- Bilirubin
- Copper
- Cholesterol
Bile's tasks:
- Aids digestion by breaking down fats from food.
- Enables the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.
- Eliminates excess waste products, dead blood cells and cholesterol.
🦠 What are gallstones?
Gallstones are deposits that can form in the gallbladder from excess cholesterol, bilirubin, or bile salts. It is worth knowing that:
-
Who (usually) gets gallstones?
- Women more often than men
- Overweight people
- People aged 40+
- A diet high in fat
Anyone can get them though!
-
Types of gallstones:
- Cholesterol – the most common, green-yellow, formed from excess cholesterol.
- Pigmented – dark, less common, contain bilirubin. Sometimes associated with liver or blood diseases.
-
Dangers of excess gallstones:
- You can live healthily with gallstones without experiencing symptoms.
- If stones become too large or numerous, they can block the bile ducts.
- Gallbladder complications can lead to jaundice, infection, or the need for surgical removal of the organ.
📗 My thoughts on cleansing
Last year I decided to delve deeper into the gallbladder because it’s a topic that’s rarely discussed in the health world. Although I’ve never had gallstone problems, I felt it was worth trying a cleanse.
🫒 What does the cleansing procedure look like?
If you decide to cleanse your gallbladder, you need to set aside at least one day for the process, preferably at home, near a toilet. Here's how to prepare for it:
A day or two before the cleanse: Preparing the body involves softening potential stones and cleansing the colon. This may include:
- Fasting
- Taking magnesium or laxatives
- Enemates (purifying ingots)
Be sure not to do the cleanse if you have constipation issues as this may make the process more difficult.
🫒 What will you need?
- Cherry or apple juice (malic acid)
- Epsom Salt (for consumption) - loose or capsules
- Olive oil
- Grapefruit juice
🫒 How to cleanse? Throughout the day:
- Drink apple or cherry juice at intervals to soften the stones. Do not consume any fats that day.
2 hours before bed:
- Prepare an Epsom salt solution (1 tablespoon Epsom salt + 1/2 teaspoon salt + 120 oz water) and drink it.
Just before bed:
- Make a "Fat Bomb" - 120 oz olive oil mixed with 120 oz grapefruit juice. Drink, brush your teeth and lie on your back to sleep.
The next morning:
- Drink another dose of Epsom salt solution. Do not eat anything until the cleansing process is complete.
🫒 Cleansing Effects
Within a few hours of waking up, you will feel a strong urge to use the bathroom. The Epsom salts act as a laxative, and any stones that may be in your gallbladder will float on the water in the toilet.
You can expect to need to use the toilet up to 3-8 times a day.
